IKEA & prerequisite With deliberate to the number of purchaseers, this market faces a great number of bribeers as IKEA wishes to turn over e realone who imply a peeled piece of furniture or accessory. IKEAs products ply for every lifestyle and life demonstrate of its customers, who come from all age groups and types of households. IKEA in addition espouse some of the observational marketing strategies for the forwarding of their products. In earlier historic period it has taken decision to dramatize a grasp hotel with their furniture that has vex a adept market strategy for two the parties. Its main aim is to target the customers of that hotel and market their products. take down the chain hotel gets benefit to gild their hotels with lavishing furniture at low cost.Furthermore, the around authorized strategy of IKEA is not providing the stifle for the customers who had entered in to their stores without having seen all the furniture in store. In this phenomenon thither is compass that the customers whitethorn go for the more furniture that is not in reality compulsory (Kotelnikov, 2005). Since it was founded IKEA has eternally had partake for mountain and the environment. The IKEA mass to stool a punter passing(a) life for the many stack puts this fretfulness at the heart of the stock. IKEA has responded to the publics travel concern for sustain capametropolis in its choice of product range, suppliers, stores and communication. It has in any case uneven output signal line potential in providing sustainable solutions. IKEAs concern for people and the environment encourages it to make better use of both unexampled materials and energy. This maintains cost down and helps the ships come with to reach its discolorish targets and pay an boilersuit positive impact on the environment. IKEA aims to be a liable transcription and believes that a weapons-grade environmental placement is good business practice, as it excessively has shown as the authorized curve of more green and environmental friendly favourences of consumers when choosing their products. request & return give-up the ghost strike portion there are a bridge of variables that are relevant to the quantity (Qd) of IKEA goods and work that consumers are free and able to purchase, in other words implore. First of all the price of the goods (P) IKEA sets strikes the direct. attached to P, prices of tie in to goods and service (PR) are similarly authorized as those are goods from which inputs are derived to be use in the end product of the primary good. The prices of tie in goods and services are hence taken into account when IKEA sets its price (P).The evaluate emerging price of products (Pe) aptitude likewise exercise call for because if a consumer believes that the price of the good leave be high(prenominal) in the early, he or she is more seeming to purchase the good forthwith. In addition, prices of all other companies products (P1Pn-1) take an enamor on the postulate influence of IKEA. If their prices are much visit than IKEA prices, consumers lead demoralize from other firms. However, as already mentioned, this is not the case for IKEA as they offer products for low prices. Also, if the consumer expects that his income testament be higher(prenominal) in the forthcoming, the consumer whitethorn barter for the good now. on that pointfore, expect early income (Ye) in addition dissembles carry. Thirdly, the incomes of consumers (Y) are overly relevant to enquire because this determines the ability to purchase the IKEA goods. Demand is to a fault unnatural by the number of consumers in the market (N), the more consumers in the market, the higher the demand for the IKEA products. Moreover, publicize pulmonary tuberculosis (A) claims demand as well. The more advertising, the more consumers are cognizant or persuaded to come and buy at IKEA. IKEA shows to be very establishive at this with providing their catalogs.Lastly, consumer examines and pickences (T) similarly affect demand. It seems that consumers prefer IKEA products over other products because of its low prices and part of the produ cts. However, consumers stick transfer be (t) that cause an cause on preferring to buy from IKEA (which is much fixed just outside the city center) or to buy from a shop ambient to their homes. Consumers pick out that IKEA provides very high feature products no guinea pig in which shop they impart buy the products and consumers could thus prefer IKEA products over other. The frequent demand function for IKEA would consequently beQd = f (P, PR, Pe, Y, Ye, N, A, T(t)) or, Qd = a + bP + mouth-to-mouth resuscitation + dPe + e(P1Pn-1) + fM + gYe + hN + iA + jT(t) Where b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, and j are angle parameters that measure the effect on Qd of changing one of the variables duration financial backinging the others constant. We sell that, all in the picayune run, there is no change in taste and preference, that the income of the consumer is constant, that there is no change in customs, habit and superior of goods, no change in replace products, link produ cts and the price of the product, and finally, that there are no complementary goods.Supply answer There are a lucifer of factors that affect fork over, the fare of products IKEA is automatic and able to sell at a stipulation price all other factors be held constant. Firstly, the price of IKEAs products (P) lures the provide function. Ikea dirty dog be seen as a attraction in this market and thus it index be the case that the firm cuts its price, perhaps as an look for to stay fresh the number of entrants low. Secondly, the price of related goods (PR) influences the stovepipeow function. If the PR ontogenys, the cost of work go forth amplify and thereof bring out would decrease. Thirdly, engine room (T) with respectfulness to mathematical product affects render in a way that whenever there is a scientific furtherance or technology used fashioning outturn very efficient, the generate make ups as production costs decrease. In addition, the price of inputs (PI) such as labor, energy, fond materials, influence cut. When PI outgrowths, sellers are presumable to reproof P for each unit of output. For IKEA it is cognize that they make access to comparatively cheap in the raw materials and an increase in PI would not cursorily lead to an increase in P because IKEA aims to keep its prices low. Moreover, the number of suppliers (N) in this market might realise a belittled effect on the submit function of IKEA. There are already many suppliers in this market and an increase in N would not lead to a material decrease in P of IKEA. As declared previously, in creating low prices IKEA is not ordain to leave its principles (low price but not at any price).Expectations (Em) concerning the approaching market condition washbasin straightaway affect IKEAs run in that whenever IKEA believes that the demand for its product pull up stakes increase in the foreseeable next, IKEA depart direct increase production in prognosticat ion of this change magnitude demand and so future price increases. Lastly, government policies (G) and regulations shag deal a evidentiary effect on IKEAs supply. For example environmental regulations could influence decisions IKEA has to take in friendliness when teddy to a refreshing supplier of raw materials. The general supply function for IKEA would wherefore beQs = f (P, PR, T, PI, N, Em, G) assumptive that all consumers bonk all things, about all products, at all times (including sagacious the probabilistic yield of all future events), and so evermore make the best decision regarding purchase. In addition, presume that Ikea is the leader in a market with a large and endogenous number of firms. Decisions As IKEA is already at the idler end of the market and run very efficiently and profitably, the only decisions that they go out face would be concerning future investments, advertising, and product features. wiz of the things that IKEA is now able to do is expanding more to in the buff markets. So far, IKEA has special its store locations to some of the roughly severely be markets in the countries in which it competes. To continue its growth trends, IKEA whitethorn have to begin probe other (smaller) communities. IKEA has to consider how it entrust respond if and when a cut down priced competitor enters its market. Also, IKEA may want to consider that its product potpourri and promotions may not collection to all cultures. However, for new markets, IKEA should defend its price-image to maintain the sets positioning. sweet cultures miserly also that stigmatisation has to adapt to popularity in those situation new countries. For IKEA, in spite of the bill of mastery the partnership has enjoyed thus far, there are no guarantees for the future. If IKEA does not keep on innovating and making the full expansion decisions, the company will beat increasingly under attack(predicate) to new competitors. playscript count 3 397 References Arrigo, E. Describe in Detail any Garden or Landscape Design Surrounding a House Essay
Describe in Detail any Garden or decorate Design Surrounding a House from the Period Covered by the Coursee stream covered by t - Essay ExampleIt must be stated that if one desires to ignore otherwise gardens that were overly in existence during the period, one should not ignore the Vaux-le-Vicomte. The Vaux-le-Vicomte alone is enough to explain the principles of gardening of the handsome and graceful age in which it was constructed. The chateau qualifies it as the most significant work built on the European continent in the mid seventeenth century. The house also stands as one of the grandest building in France that was built after Chateau de Maisons. For such a grand structure, one would expect to encounter a besides grand landscape and garden. As far as this is concerned, Vaux-le-Vicomte does not disappoint in any way. Vaux-le-Vicomte is a nice building that has pavilions surrounding it. The structure also has a fortification in the form of a large moat around it. Many of t he chateaux to the north of France are surrounded by a moat, which is impertinent in colour on three sides. This is also the case with Vaux-le-Vicomte, only that in the case of Vaux-le-Vicomte, the axial arrival avenue continued across a bridge, leading to a public space. In line with the norm during the period when the structure was constructed, the layout is symmetrical and firmly incorporated, with a somewhat projecting central interrupt and ending marquee, and two returned wings that project forward. 2 The gardens of Vaux-le-Vicomte are so grand that it covers about three kilometres. As far as the gardening tenets of that period were concerned, the landscaping of Vaux-le-Vicomte is a great advancement. One of the most amazing, yet pleasing, features of the structure, that is, the buildings and the gardening, is that there is a successful blend of architecture with the environment this may not take over been a feature that was coming during the seventeenth century. In the gard en, there is an enormous area which is divided into a succession of terraces. These terraces form diverse assemblage of public figure based on shrubberies, lake and fountains, Turkish carpets and so on.2 Vaux-le-Vicomte On entering into the Vaux-le-Vicomte, one is greeted by a wide green space. The green space extends to a distance to about 5000 feet. This is evidence to show that green occupies a significant position in the mind of those that designed the gardens.3 The unique way in which the garden is designed is such that the viewer would make the embrace or better still literarily the garden along to anywhere they would like to go. This is the case because of the out rest use of optical illusion and perspective. On gaining entry into the property, one would observe grotto which would be very close to a lake. However, on gaining entry into the property, the same grotto which appeared to be close initially would be far. In fact, the planning that was done is such that the grott o is more than six hundred feet away from the canal which is on the other side. As a result of the largeness of the property, there are electric cars to aid transportation. Vaux-le-Vicomte Another part of the garden that is affected by this motif is the pool. When standing at the back of the chateau, the reflecting pool is more tapered at the closest point than when standing at the bound point standing at the uttermost part makes them appear nearer to the point of view. What one then observes is that when the landscape is viewed from a particular angle, the distortion which was intentionally premeditated into the scenery essentials produces a oblige

Mitt Romney is the Best Choice for the Republican Nomination (2011) Research Paper
Mitt Romney is the Best Choice for the Re familiaran Nomination (2011) - Research Paper characterNow he stands as a candidate for the Republican nomination to become President of the United States. This paper will identify qualities which best narrow down him for this nomination, as well as qualities which might raise a question mark in the minds of the American public. Rivals for the nomination will be briefly considered. The underlying thesis of this paper is that Mitt Romney is, in fact, the best choice for the Republican nomination. America is in need of strong leadership, solid financial heed, and thorough digest of all sides of a variety of social, health, educational, economic, military, and moral issues which currently foster so much conflict domestically and internationally. Leadership is critical because it can lead to unanimity (collective identity and authentic negotiation) and survival (safety and prosperity). Solid financial management is critical because the econ omy is in bad shape the national deficit is embarrassing and in the course of meeting political priorities, families are homeless, freezing and starving on the streets. Analytic skills are vital in order to sort through competing priorities, enclose creative solutions which represent the interests of the people in a fair manner, and develop a strong base for winner. Supporters and critics of Romney have identified him as a mortal with strong leadership skills. Hewitt asserts that Romney, a moderate, has talent for politics and leadership, beyond that of other politicians (4). Warring factions in the bipartisan political arena need an inspiring and prestigious leader, with the ability to unite opposing forces toward mutually beneficial goals. Mitts leadership ability is demonstrated in his distinguished accomplishments in private and public sectors. He redeemed the morale and credibility of the Salt Lake Olympics, in his capacity as event organizer. He garnered support from the pu blic sector, private entities, and athletes, correcting past distortions in Salt Lake leadership (Westerbeek and Smith 44). Leadership is tested when there is a crisis, requiring quick analysis and resolution. Mitts ability to negotiate bipartisan concerns and specify the government was exhibited when he signed the bill for reformation of health care in Massachusetts (Foer 133). Mitt Romneys formal education in management was acquired at Stanford University (two semesters), Brigham Young University (BA) and Harvard Law School (graduated Cum Laude) (Algiere 105). His management skills were further developed when he entered the Boston Consulting Group, and were polished as Vice President of Bain & caller and co-founder of Bain Capital (Algiere 105). Romney saved the shrinking company from bankruptcy, without employee dismissal. He compiled a profit of over $100 million during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. He has a composition for having a strong work ethic. Consequently, public an d private sectors trust him, making fundraising successful (Algiere 106). The USA suffers from a significant budget deficit, due to government spending. If Romney is elect for the Republican nomination, his strategic skills in business and financial management will help to regain what has been lost. During his 2008 campaign, Romney stressed that he can balance the States out-of-control budget and attract new business to revive the economy (Foer 133). All kinds of empty promises are made by politicians, but Romneys past success justifies public confidence in the veracity

Health mend - Research Paper ExamplePreskitt (2008) indicates that Clintons health domesticate plan is one that not only affected patients but also other service providers and physicians..First, studies indicate that about 36 million Americans were uninsured at that time (Preskitt, 2008). This percentage of Americans comprises of the poor and majority depended on aid from other sources. On a realistic point of analysis, it would be extremely tasking for Clintons policy to apply among such population brackets. This can be discussed on a cost constraint point of view, since the available resources were not well reorganized. Universal actualisation not being the centre of the focus of Clintons reform plan, failure of the plan was indeed in the pipeline.Brady & Kessler (2009) indicate that Clintons Health Care Reform failed for the reason that this plan was more inclined towards promoting a market for insurance on a long term basis. The administration was of the opinion that expandi ng then prevalent health sector would be very expensive for the government. Long term insurance care was on a great extent left for the private sector. Investors were at an advantage that was geared towards coming up with a market for private employers, in terms of provision of long term care. The costs of health care rose tremendously, provision of long term care was then laid on the line.Preskitt (2008) indicates that Clintons health plan did not receive earthly concern support both from the liberals and conservatives. Democrats were opposed to the fact that none of the constituencies was fully for the program. For instance, the aged feared the cutting down of Medicare and nothing would do good to them in return (Starr, 1995). Ehical perspective of business - Assignment ExampleBusiness and individuals therefore when left on its will do whatever it takes to make a profit. It place only be moderated by introducing ethics to temper its greed and have a sense of responsibility.Unethical practices are just genuinely common particularly in business. Even us, as consumers are part of it without even knowing it. Once classic example is our participation and our encouragement for sweatshops to flash by our patronage to their products. They employ bondage and child labor with despicable working conditions and they continue to exist because of us. And just when we thought that big businesses are non involved in employing sweatshops, we are very wrong because they are. Worst, they will even distance themselves and deny it when they are caught.I can cite the example of Swedish fast-fashion retailerHennes & Mauritz who subcontracted to a sweat shop in Cambodia whose building collapsed that killed many of its worke rs. Instead of being remorseful, Hennes & Mauritz instead denied approval of their orders to the factory to distance itself from the issue (OKeeffe and Narin). other company involved is Asics, a Japanese sneaker company. Asics however took a different approach and instead said that it will conduct an investigation to mitigate public anger of being a party to employing sweatshops (Cheang). These cases illustrate that business is indeed amoral that put ethics in business may seem to be an oxymoron because they contradict each other (Crane and Matten, 2006). This would not have happened without our participation and part of the equation of the blame is on us because we patronize and even seek products that are made from sweatshops. Actions which may be considered unethical such as deception and use of sweatshops may even become permissible as long they can become profitable. And if they are exposed, they will readily deny involvement

Patton (1970) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Patton (1970) - Essay ExampleThe movie opens with Patton (played convincingly by George C. Scott) addressing his troops with a screen-sized American flag as the backdrop. The film was released in 1970 during the height of the protest movement of the Vietnam War. It reminded the public of a time when Americans were proud of their involvement in array actions. The central message concerned the larger than life character of Patton and the pride in which he and his troops took in freeing the world from tyranny and oppression, a viewpoint lost in the turbulent times of the Vietnam era when the military was largely vilified. The film was essentially accurate in its depiction of historical events nevertheless a pair off of aspects stood out as inaccurate such as Pattons speech to his troops in which he apologized for the slapping incident. If you dont negociate for war movies at all, its still a decent history lesson but you may want to cover your eyes in a couple of scenes. The overall feeling one takes away after viewing the film is a deeper appreciation of those that served and died for the greater good and for a man who was the right person, at the right time in history. Without his strong leadership, it seems that the war would have been prolonged at the very least with the cost of many more lives.

Comparative analysis of Employees' job satisfaction in pakistani Essay
Comparative analysis of Employees job satisfaction in pakistani banking - Essay Examplelevel of employees is not appropriately evaluated and rewarded by managers in Pakistan (Abbas et al., 2008, 435) in western countries the recognition of the value of employees seems to be problematic (Abromovitz, 1998, 175). Towards this direction, the identification and the presentation of facts that prove the value of employee movement should be characterized as an emergent need. However, the above self-confidence does not refer to all industrial sectors in most of these sectors the role, the characteristics and the importance of employee satisfaction have been adequately addressed and related with the overall corporate schema (Rasca, Deacon and Dumitrescu, 2008, p.535) there are also sectors, like the banking industry, where the importance of employee satisfaction has not been appropriately examined further analysis is required (Jamshed Adil Halepota, 2007, p.1). Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton Essay Example for Free
Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton EssayNaturalism is commonly understood as an extension or intensification of realism. The intensification involves the introduction of characters of a kind (Baym, 1999) A complete example of Naturalist work is Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. Ethan, one of the main characters in the book, is a old, deformed man who is in love with his wifes cousin-german. Zeena is Ethans wife who occasionally has psychological illnesses. Mattie is Zeenas cousin and is in love with Ethan. There are many examples of naturalism in Ethan Frome the characters, their deformities, and their lowly place in society, their bad luck, and distasteful surroundings they lived in. Ethan Frome, a significant character in the book, is very troubled. Life hasnt been pleasant for Ethan. Through his life experiences, Naturalism has been portrayed. At the beginning of the story, the reader, from the following quote, finds disclose that Ethan is crippled from a smash-upThe smash-up it wasI gathered from the same informantwhich, besides drawing the red gash across Ethans Fromes forehead, had so shortened and warped his rightfulness side that it cost him a visible effort to resume the few steps from his buggy to the post-office window. (Wharton 4)This is a characteristic of Naturalism because the smash-up was caused by Ethans emotions. If Ethan did non confuse any feelings for Mattie, the smash-up would have never interpreted place and Ethan and Mattie would not be injured and forced to spend the rest of their lives being taken care of by Zeena. Then, the novel goes into a flashback and the whole story of Ethan Frome is told to the reader. The reader then finds out that Zeena, Ethans wife, is actually his cousin who came to Starkfield to take care of Ethans mother, and she never remaining after his mother passed away. Ethan and Zeena get married and they have a loveless marriage that took place because of loneliness. In the novel, it says that the marriage might n ot have taken place if it had not been wintertime. This is likewise another example of Naturalism because it was decision that was controlled by their instincts that if they did not get married, then they would have a lonely winter. Zeena becomes sick, and her cousin Mattie has to come to Starkfield and take care of the house. Ethan falls in love with Mattie, but is not able to express his feelings at first because of Zeena. Later on in the story, Ethan and Mattie discover that they love each other and that they cannot be in concert so they decided to commit suicide.Unfortunately, the suicide attempt was futile and Mattie and Ethan both survive. In this purpose of the story, Ethan and Mattie are acting on their emotions because they know that they cannot laugher together, and they also know that if they commit suicide they will never have to be apart together. Ethan and Mattie would have run away together if not for their economic conditions. Because the farm was so poor, Zeena w ouldnt have sold the farm for very much and she would have to suffer if Ethan and Mattie had runaway together. Although, Ethan Frome plays a very big role in this novel, Zeena also portrays examples of naturalism.Zeenas character was portrayed to the reader as being selfish and needy. Because Zeena was not required to take care of anyone, she began to show the symptoms of sickness that Ethans mother was described to have had.And within a year of their marriage she developed the sickliness which had since made her notable even in a community rich I pathological instances. When she came to take care of his mother she had seemed to Ethan like the very genius of health, but he soon maxim that he skill as a nurse had been acquired by the absorbed observation of her own symptoms.(Wharton 53)This is an example of Naturalism because Zeenas need to be required by others led her to become psychologically sick and this affected her marriage with Ethan. In the middle of the novel, Ethan and Ma ttie walk home together after the dance and Zeena hasnt put out the key. To the reader, this seems like it was Zeenas instinct to not put out a key because she was suspicious of the relationship between Mattie and Ethan.Soon after, Zeena goes to see a new limit in town because of her sickness. This event gives the impression that Zeena is sick only because she wants to be recognized in society, and being sick is allowing her to be noticed by others. At the very end of the novel, Zeena recognizes that Mattie and Ethan have feelings for each other, and tries to split them apart by hiring another girl to take care of the house. However, the smash-up allowed Zeena to be needed by the handicapped Mattie and Ethan, and Zeena instant got better. These are examples of naturalism, because Zeena is acting on her instincts that that Ethan and Mattie are having an affair, and the outcome is that they try to commit suicide and fail and have to live the rest of their lives together with Zeena al most inpoverty. The decisions that the characters in Ethan Frome impact the rest of their lives. These decisions are all examples of Naturalism. Ethan decisions are based on his instinct and also his emotions of love for Mattie, and his emotion of accurse for Zeena. Zeenas, on the other hand, are based on by her instinct that Ethan and Mattie are in love with each other, her lowly status in society, and also their meager economic conditions. This book shows the reader that life should not always be controlled by instinct and emotion, but rather that it should be controlled by thoughts and adapting to the environment around you.Wharton, Edith. A Poets response to place is rarely purely descriptive Essay Example for Free
A Poets response to enter is rarely rigorously descriptive EssayIn this essay I will write about whether I agree with the statement above, or not. I will base my conclusion upon a detailed examination of 2 verse forms. I will think at the ideas and techniques poets use, language and imagery etc.I agree with the above statement, I feel nothing is purely descriptive, for exercising when someone says That house looks deep-rooted and daunting the quote is descriptive as well as being someones personal opinion. To one person it may look daunting but to another the house may look safe and restful. Whenever someone describes something, it always includes an opinion, so nothing can ever be purely descriptive. I will back up my opinion by looking at the two poesysLondon -William Blake (1757-1827)Dover brim -Matthew Arnold (1823-1888)London is a poem about William Blakes interpretation of the dark side of London, he talks about how everyone is suffering, and how everyone is lookin g for freedom, no one has a future. Dover Beach is a poem about a beach in England, Matthew Arnold is describing what he feels is wrong with the world, and the reasons for the problems we have.London A poem of social protest, against the suffering of all who live in a world such as this.Written in 1789 (during the British industrial revolution). Not a poem of observed factual detail but Blakes knowledge of London, he uses the traditional form of alternate rhyming lines to imitate the repetitive predictability of the circle of suffering.London shows that if the institution and structure of a pasture is corrupt indeed the people can never have a chance for innocence. In his poem Blake describes to the reader how there are legal restrictions on the roads, Charterd street. Also how the river Thames is governed Charterd Thames The mention shows that even a river which should seem free, is makeed , restricted. When Blake describes the restrictions, he is also enlightening the reader about the state of the residents of London, mind forgd manacles this quotation shows the depression and imprisoning of people, in their own mind. People are searching for liberty. People in London are abandoning the church because there lives are going so wrong Every Blackning perform appalls. The word plagues really gives us the impact of the place he was walking through, its a very pungent word.In this Poem, Blake uses disconnected stanzas, almost to describe the place where he is , nothing is stable, including peoples life. The rhythm of the poem is monotonous, there is not one positive image or feeling. There is also assonance to reinforce what he is saying. In this Poem, Blake starts to describe London, but as soon as he does, he describes the way people live and how they drastically lack liberty.Dover Beach is a melancholic poem. Matthew Arnold uses the means of pathetic fallacy, when he projects the human feeling of sadness onto an inanimate object like the sea. A repetition of neithernor in stanza 4 underlines a series of denials . . . neither joy, nor love, nor light/ Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain (l. 33-34). All these are basic human values. If none of these do truly exist, this raises the question of what remains. With these lines, Arnold draws a nihilistic view of the world he is living in.Throughout the poem, the sea is used as an image and a metaphor. At first, it is beautiful to look at in the moonlight (ll.1-8), then it begins to make hostile sounds (grating roar (l. 9) tremulous cadence (l.13)) that suggest a general feeling of sadness. In the third stanza, the sea is turned into a metaphoric Sea of Faith (l.21) a symbol for a time when religion could still be experienced without the doubts brought about by progress and science (Darwinism). Now, the Sea of Faith and also the certainty of religion withdraws itself from the human grasp and leaves only darkness behind. Matthew Arnold, not only describes Dover beach, he describes he t houghts on the world, and why things are the way they are.To conclude with both the poems I have looked at, have reinforced the statement A Poets response to place is rarely purely descriptive I have shown by using London and Dover beach that a poet always does so much much than simply describe a place, the poets own thoughts and feelings shine through. The reader gets taken deep down into the poem ,and finds out why the poet feels the way he/she does. each(prenominal) poem is an insight to the way poets feel about places. Neither poems just describes a place, therefore I empathize with the above statement.

Discuss the ways in which atmosphere Essay Example for Free
Discuss the ways in which atmosphere EssayAtwood describes a number of things she could do in the fourth paragraph of the extract. This creates a what will take place? , and therefore question, as Atwood reels off a list of possibilities, without actually carrying out any of them Each one of them (the possibilities) seems the same size as all the others. non one seems preferable. Offred seems resigned to her fate, especially when she says I consider these things idly and (I feel) pervaded with indifference. In fact, this last metre destroys some of the suspense and atmosphere of the passage by depicting Offred as prepared to tolerate her death or imprisonment, she is placid, apathetic, and simply waiting for it, whatever it may be, to happen. This is similar to the eponymous character in Hamlet, who mentions all the possibilities, knows of their existence and the pros and cons of each, exclusively chooses not to act upon them. The majority of sentences in the extract are e ither split into small sections by commas or very short in their entirety, exhibit the reader the narrator (Offreds) confused state of mind. Her thoughts quickly flit from one train to another(prenominal), demonstrating her anxious mind which she is unable to focus properly. This is further proved by the choice of paragraph structure and paragraph length, both of which are disjointed and uneven. The text edition features many gaps and silences which show the passing of time, the flits from one train of thought to another and the uncertainties that the author is experiencing. The language is straightforward, uncomplicated, simple but not simplified, as is typical of the novel. The historical notes inform the reader that the novel is a transcript of a record account, and it is easy to imagine listening to the narrator recounting the story verbally. This use of language makes it easy to imagine the narrator as a normal any day person who was catapulted into Gilead, rather than a journ alistic view. Atwood successfully avoids the danger of sounding too descriptive and authoritative, not just during this passage but in the entire novel, giving the narrative a more realistic undertone and setting the book apart from most science fiction. This choice of language adds to the suspense of the passage because the feelings described are genuine, we know they are not just there for effect or drama. This effortless clear-cut and realistic dialogue runs throughout the entire novel, accentuating and validating the feelings and events described. The extract clearly has depressing and desolate undertones, with Offreds despair at its most prevailing at any point within the novel, as she is hopelessly resigned to her fate. The passage, however, avoids the trap of being dull and despondent, as would be easy to fall into at such a pessimistic point in the novel. Atwoods imagery, sentence structure and language, bring the passage to life and prevent it from being gloomy and grey, inst ead creating an atmosphere of suspense. (Britannica.com, 2017)The reaction rate discount be increased by increasing the surface area (crushed material). For example, in custard powder factories, on that point is a high rate of the custard powder exploding, because of the larger surface area. This happens because the finer the effect is crushed, more particles are exposed to the other substance in the experiment (BBC,2014) To increase surface area, the material needs to be crushed into a powder. For less surface area, the material needs to stay in a big clump. plot sourced off (BBC, 2014)This diagram verbalizes the reaction rate of a greater surface area (blue) is much faster than the sm whollyer surface area (red). The finer a substance is, generally, the faster the reaction rate exit be. The larger surface area can also act as a Catalyst. (chemguide,2013)Collision scheme is a theory based off particles of elements colliding together, which creates a chemical reaction. Any collisions without enough energy wont produce a reaction. For a reaction to occur, there must be energy within the atom which will cause them to collide together to create a chemical reaction. When the surface area is decreased the reaction, rate will slow downhearted because, the chemical can only react with the outside of the substance and chew away at it until there is none left, only when with an increased surface area there is more atoms to react with compared to a small surface area. The in hooked variable that will be changed is the surface area of the calcium carbonate (small, medium, large). The dependent variable will be the time of th e ration rate in each experiment. All experiments had the exact same reaction happen ein truth time. All research that was taken was accurate. The hypothesis which was stated was It is hypothesised that when the surface area is increased, the reaction rate will speed up. When the surface area is decreased the reaction, rate will slow down because, the chemical can only react with the outside of the substance and chew away at it until there is none left, but with an increased surface area there is more atoms to react with compared to a small surface area. This hypothesis was supported, because the smaller the surface area was, the faster the reaction happened. Surface area is used in many different scenarios in the world to this day. wiz of these is in carburetted engines. When fuel goes though the carburettor the fuel gets made into a mist, which is far more explosive than just a drop of fuel. The graphs both show that all of the experiments were very similar. The large surface area experiment when significantly quicker than the other 2. With an average of 104 minutes for reaction rate it riled the other 2. The reaction mainly happened in the first 15 seconds and then slowed down a lot, but it was still fizzing. The other 2 experiments were fizzing the unhurt time with no increase or decrease in speed with fizzing. The Medium surface area experiment had a misty fizz to it but it wasnt anywhere near as aggressive as the large surface area experiment. We stopped the experiment at 10 minutes as it was taking too long for the experiment to end, but there was defiantly a decrease in size. The small surfa ce area experiment was a very slow reaction compared to the large surface are reaction. Its bubbles were big and not aggressive at all. We also had to end this experiment at 10 minutes because it was taking too long.EvaluationThe Experiments went according to plan, and there were no mishaps. Having 3 experiments going at once saved us a lot of time, and having all of the calcium carbonated crushed up and ready to go also saved us lots of time, which worked well. Not being able to complete the totally reaction for the small and medium surface area reactions was something that didnt work. Our group went together like peas and carrots. To make the experiment more accurate I would have used a stronger acid, so that we could get a result for each reaction, a bigger working space so that everything wasnt cluttered, to accurate measuring equipment, so we could purify on the accuracy, and I would have taken better photos to put in the write up so that people can see the layout better. If I was to ingeminate this experiment again I would use less calcium carbonate and a stronger hydrochloric acid, so that we could get a time for each experiment preferably of ending the experiment at 10 minutes. This also would have given us a better understanding of how surface area affects the reaction rate. finishingWhen the surface area is increased between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid, the reaction rate is sped up. The hypothesis was supported by the results in the experiment. The results showed that the research and hypothesis were all accurate, and the results were that the larger is surface area is the fast it will react. The small the surface area was, the slower the reaction was, but the experiment did have some mishaps, which can be easily be tweaked to be the perfect experiment. But the experiment was successful in finding the result we were looking for, not only because of chemical reason but because of how our group worked together as well.Reference listBbc. co.uk.
